Generally, RCAs are required to use their own vehicles for mail delivery, and they receive an equipment allowance in addition to regular pay. The vehicle needs to be insured, dependable, and in good working condition.
HOW TO JOIN. To be able to join the NRLCA, you must first be employed by the USPS and work in the Rural Carrier Craft as a Regular, Substitute, RCR, or RCA. This excludes TRCs who are only temporary relief carriers. You may then complete NRLCA form 1187.
Assistant Rural Carriers (ARCs) deliver packages on Sundays, during certain holidays, during the Christmas season, and at managements discretion. ARCs do not receive benefits as of right now. Rural Carrier Associates (RCAs) are letter carriers who work as substitutes for regular/career letter carriers.
