AUSTIN The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reminds Texans that changes to the states Vehicle Safety Inspection Program which eliminate most vehicle safety inspections begin on Jan. 1, 2025. These changes are due to House Bill 3297.
Starting in 2025, Texas drivers wont need to take their vehicle for a safety inspection, but theyll pay a slightly higher registration fee to support transportation and environmental programs. House Bill 3297 removes the requirement for annual safety inspections for non-commercial vehicles.
REMINDER: Beginning January 1, 2025, Texas Vehicle Safety Inspection Program will eliminate most vehicle safety inspections. All non-commercial vehicles will no longer need a vehicle safety inspection prior to being registered in Texas.
