Marriages and civil unions are performed in Chicago and all of the suburban municipal district courthouses. A valid marriage or civil union license and a $10 administrative fee are required. Couples must obtain a marriage or civil union license at least one (1) day, but no longer than 60 days, prior to the ceremony.
Couples will have to come to the county clerks office, show valid IDs, sign the applications and pay the fee. At that time, the paperwork needed to schedule your ceremony at the courthouse will be issued to you.
MARRIAGE LICENSES ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY! Schedule appointment HERE. Both parties must be present at the in-person appointment.
After applying for an Illinois marriage license at the county clerks office where the wedding is taking place, it will be issued to you immediately. There are no waiting periods and the license is valid for up to 60 days and takes effect the day after it was issued.
