With minor exceptions discussed below, anyone carrying handguns in Connecticut must have a gun permit and carry it upon his or her person when carrying a handgun (CGS 29-35). The gun permit is issued under a two part process.
You have to be considered a Connecticut resident, no younger than 21 years old, and obtain a permit or eligibility certificate to carry or purchase pistols or revolvers. Similarly, to buy a long gun in Connecticut, you must be at least 18 years old and obtain a valid permit or eligibility certificate.
If your firearm is not included or does not have features defining it as an assault weapon, registration is not required.
