Open Public Records Act (OPRA) OPRA is a state law that was enacted to give the public greater access to government records maintained by public agencies in New Jersey.
In accordance with the Open Public Records Act, NJDEP makes available its public records through formal requests to the Departments Office of Record Access. Requests may be submitted in writing by submitting a paper records request form or by completing the online form below.
Under Open Public Records Act ( OPRA ), the custodian of government records must comply with the request as soon as possible, but no later than seven business days after the request is received.
A: When a request form is submitted, the custodian will determine if any prepayment is required. Paper copies of records cost $0.05 per letter-sized page and $0.07 per legal-sized page; however, the delivery and postage fees could be additional, depending on delivery type.
When is a response to an OPRA request due? Generally: As soon as possible. But no later than seven (7) business days after custodians receipt of the request.
