Trump is set randomly by turning up the first undealt card. The most unique aspect of Oh Hell is the changing number of cards dealt per hand. Games are a set number of hands long. At the end of the hands, the player with the highest score wins.
Oh Hell can be played with 2-7 players with a standard deck of cards and can fit more players by combining decks.
6 players use a 52-card pack plus 2 jokers, and 9 cards are dealt to each player. With 5 players, keep the Jokers, throw out the four Deuces and deal 10 cards to each player. So all the cards are always in play. Trumps are hearts on the first deal, then clubs, diamonds, spades, and repeat the sequence.
