Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White announced that expiration dates for drivers licenses, ID cards and learners permits are being extended until December 1, 2022. The previous extension was set to end on July 31, 2022.
The Secretary of States office will mail you a renewal letter 60 to 90 days before your license expires to remind you to renew it. The letter will describe the renewal options available to you. You always have the option to renew your drivers license in person at any convenient Driver Services Facility.
The Safe Driver Renewal Program allows Illinois residents to renew their drivers license over the telephone, online or through the mail. If you are eligible, a renewal letter regarding the Safe Driver Program will be sent approximately 60 days prior to the expiration of your current drivers license.
