In-service training is that training required by law of certified Kansas police or law enforcement officers. Kansas law requires each certified, full-time, employed officer to receive 40 hours of such training annually.
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Age: Officer must be 21 years of age by their first day of employment. Citizenship: Kansas law requires Police Officer candidate be a United States citizen. Drivers License: Officers must have a valid drivers license to perform their job duties.
All in-service training Continuing Education courses assist agencies in meeting State mandates as required by Kansas Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (CPOST). Kansas law requires each certified, full-time, employed officer must receive forty (40) hours of training annually.
To become certified as a police officer, a Police Officer Trainee must undergo 560 hours of basic training at the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center in Hutchinson, Kansas. Following graduation, they must complete 240 hours of in-house training before moving on to patrol.
The KCKPD Police Academy is a nonresidential academy that operates during daytime hours, Monday through Friday. After completing Basic Recruit Training and certification as a police officer, graduates complete a 15-week FTO (Field Training Officer) program before being assigned to a patrol division.
