In most instances, applicants must first pass the FE Exam and then the PE Exam in order to be considered for licensure (although the FE Exam can be waived under certain conditionssee MN Rule 1800.2800). Both exams are administered by the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES).
To become licensed, engineers must complete a four-year college degree, work under a Professional Engineer for at least four years, pass two intensive competency exams and receive a license from their states licensure board.
