Louisiana is not a Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) state. Louisiana has its own bar exam with essay questions and some multiple choice questions. Louisiana requires the Multistate Professional Responsibility Examination (MPRE).

Luckily, most states allow unlimited attempts to pass the bar exam. There are 21 states that limit bar exam attempts, that range from 2-6 attempts. Some of those states have discretionary limits that allow additional attempts outside of their limit with special permissions.

No Set Limit: Most of the states in the country have no limit on the number of attempts a student can give to pass the bar exam. There is no set number defined, and it does not affect the candidates eligibility in any way.
South Carolina (3) after failing the bar exam three times, an applicant must wait one year before sitting for the exam again. The applicant may also have to complete additional education requirements before being eligible to sit for the exam again.
Applicants shall have only five (5) attempts to pass the examination. Results of each examination are mailed to each applicant as well as posted on the front doors of the Louisiana State Supreme Court building and on the Supreme Courts website.
