The division has a distinguished history, having seen active service in World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Global War on Terror. The Medal of Honor has been awarded to 61 members of the 3rd Infantry Division, making the division the most honored in the Army.
Due to their superior performance during operations in the Solomons, the division earned the nickname Tropic Lightning.
The 25th Infantry Division was formed on 1 October 1941 at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Its lineage can be traced to the Hawaiian Division, which defended Hawaii from 1921 to 1941. The Division received its baptism of fire when Japanese forces attacked Oahu on 7 December 1941.
Criteria: These distinctive unit insignia are worn by the 25th Infantry Division (25th ID). Their nickname and motto is Tropic Lightning. Headquartered at Schofield Barracks in Wahiawa, HI.
