UTAR was founded as a not-for-profit private university with a mission to provide affordable quality education to everyone. The University offers tuition fee scholarships of up to 100% to help students to pursue their academic dream, without any obligation to repay UTAR.
Abdul Rahman was the second longest serving Malaysian prime minister and the first to hold the position. As prime minister, he supervised the Malayan independence process and the formation of Malaysia. As a result, he is widely regarded as Malaysias founding father.
On 5 July 2001, in ance with the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996, the then Minister of Education Tan Sri Musa Mohamad invited the MCA to establish Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR).
