To qualify for funded job training, you must either qualify as a dislocated worker OR meet the income requirements in the Adult Program. Verification that you are a returning Veteran within the last 48 months.
In program year 2020 (the most recent available from the Department of Labor), 237,836 people received training through WIOA (less than half of adult program participants and a little over a third of dislocated worker participants). The cost per participant was $1,500$2,500.
The program is intended to serve adults, dislocated workers, and youth who are in need of training to enter or re-enter the labor market. WIOA eligibility is determined through the Alabama Career Centers. Training funds generally will provide tuition/registration, tools, books, and fees.
Housing assistance enables participants to maintain or obtain adequate or temporary shelter while participating in WIOA Title I services. WIOA may not pay for rental deposits or mortgage payments.
Eligibility determination can typically be made in 5-7 business days once an individual has attended an eligibility appointment and all required documentation has been received. Training sponsorship approval is a separate process.
