Outlaw quadrupeds include the feral hog, an invasive species which has caused severe crop and land damage throughout the state, as well coyotes and armadillos. Licensed hunters may take outlaw quadrupeds year-round during legal shooting hours.
Outlaw Quadrupeds (Coyotes, Armadillos Feral Hogs) Holders of a hunting license may take coyotes, feral hogs and armadillos year round during legal daylight shooting hours (for information on nighttime take see Nighttime Take of Nutria, Beaver Outlaw Quadrupeds).
During daylight hours, landowners or their designees may remove nutrias and beavers causing damage to their property without a special permit. Nutrias may be removed by any means; legal methods for beavers include water set traps and firearms.
Nothing contained in this Subpart shall deprive landowners and lessees of agricultural or forest lands or their agents, representatives, and employees, of their right to nutria and beaver as a pest without a license on agricultural or forest lands owned or leased by them or in residential areas, or in waterways
Shooting of nutria is most effective when done at night with a spotlight or red lens. However, night-shooting is illegal in many states and should not be attempted until proper permits have been obtained. Nutria can be shot from the shoreline or from boats.
