Each year Game and Fish inspects thousands of watercraft entering Wyoming from all 50 states. Watercraft inspections are crucial as the first line of defense against aquatic invasive species entering Wyomings waters.
A boat title is a legal document that acts a proof of ownership. Titling may be required in order to sell your boat, but titling rules differ from state to state. Any boat can be voluntarily titled, but sometimes just state registration is sufficient to prove ownership.
The most cautious boaters can sometimes experience unexpected problems on the water. Thats why the U.S. Coast Guard recommends that all recreational boaters, including personal watercraft and paddle sport users, take advantage of the free Vessel Safety Check program every year.
Wyoming law requires that watercraft, whether motored or not, must carry a U.S. Coast Guard approved wearable personal flotation device (PFD) of a suitable size for each person on board. Water sport toys -- float tubes, air mattresses -- are exempt from the PFD requirement in most instances.
For a new or transfer-of-ownership motorized watercraft, you will need to have a county-issued title in your name and proof that the Wyoming sales tax has been paid. You may be required to have a hull identification inspection done by a law enforcement officer to verify the Hull Identification Number (HIN).

By law, boats coming from out of state must be inspected or have valid proof of inspection before they launch on waters in Wyoming, including waters in the park. This includes motorized boats, rafts, drift boats, canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards, and all watercraft 10 feet and longer.
Numbers and stickers issued at the time of registration must be placed on each side of the forward half of the vessel, usually on the bow (see the figures below). Registration stickers must be securely affixed three inches aft of, and in line with, the registration numbers.
Rangers inspect a boat for aquatic invasive species. Wyoming Game and Fish and Grand Teton National Park are concerned about the spread of Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS).
