Normal: The stool appears brown, soft, and well-formed in consistency. The stool does not contain blood, mucus, pus, undigested meat fibers, harmful bacteria, viruses, fungi, or parasites.
An abnormal FIT result means that blood was found in your stool (poop) sample. Abnormal FIT results are common and do NOT mean that you have cancer, but it is important to attend the recommended follow-up to investigate what may have caused your abnormal FIT result.
Normal Range for Stool Routine Test Results Consistency: Soft and formed. pH: Between 6.5 and 7.5. Absence of Pathogens: No bacteria, viruses, or parasites. No Blood or Excess Mucus: Indicates healthy gut lining.
Stool test results can be positive or negative. A negative result means your poop looks typical, and the lab didnt find any signs of disease like blood or germs. If your stool tests positive for a germ, the test result may also give you the name of the bug.
You can call the cancer screening programme helpline on 0800 707 6060 for more information about cancer screening, including: how to get a FIT kit.

A stool test can detect many things docHub to health: anything from parasite infection to signs of cancer, yeast or bacterial overgrowth, or pathogenic bacteria like C. difficile, Campylobacter and certain strains of E. coli.
If the result from a stool-based test is abnormal, you will still need a colonoscopy to see if you have colorectal cancer. All stool-based tests look for occult (hidden) blood in the stool, and some look for other possible signs of cancer as well.
