This name change comes following IU and Purdues Universitys announcement to split IUPUI into two separate institutions by fall 2024. Andrew Klein, IUPUIs interim chancellor, expressed optimism over the name change with the chancellor referring to the changes as Vision 2024 in a press release.
Both IU and Purdue have stated that the reason for the split is to promote economic growth and to create new jobs. IUPUI was originally formed to create more jobs and to retain graduates in Indiana, and, now, both IU and Purdue are splitting to follow their own visions for higher education in Indianapolis.
INDIANAPOLIS After more than 50 years, Indiana University and Purdue University are officially ending their partnership. That means students will no longer be attending IUPUI this upcoming fall.
In the split, all IUPUI athletic teams are going to IU Indianapolis. While IU Indianapolis will still be the Jaguars, the school will not recruit students who are interested in pursuing engineering or other Purdue degrees going forward.
