McLeod County Glencoe / County
Founded on June 11, 1855, Martin McLeod of the townsite company suggested the name Glencoe for Glen Coe, Scotland, the modern home of Scottish mountaineering. It was immediately declared to be the McLeod judicial seat, although it has not remained the countys largest municipality.
The county was created by the Minnesota Territorial legislature on March 1, 1856.
