Ask your Vet who probably has the details recorded on your pets medical record. Most large pet stores will ``read your pets chip for free, or you can ask your area ``Animal Control / Welfare Officer if they can do that for you.

How do you register your pets chip?

Once youve confirmed your microchip number, registering it is free and takes no more than a few minutes. You can do it yourself on the Customer Portal or by calling 1-833-886-8002 to work directly with a Pet Registry Specialist. Thats it!

What information does a microchip provide?

Dog microchips are tiny implants about the size of a grain of rice that are placed under your dogs skin. The microchip contains a unique identification (ID) number that becomes your dogs permanent ID. Once the chip has been implanted in your dog, it will link your contact information to your pet.

What happens if my dog is microchipped but not registered?

If it is not registered then the microchip means nothing because the details need to be registered so that when the chip is scanned they can find out about your pet. If details are not registered then then chip details are blank.

What is a microchip document?

Microchips are a permanent form of pet identification that uses a unique number to identify your pet when scanned. This rice-sized radio frequency identification device (RFID) is quickly inserted under your pets skin with a hypodermic needle, where it will usually remain for their lifetime.

What information is stored on a microchip?

The only information that is held on your dogs microchip is a unique 15-digit code. This code is registered with a database that also records your contact details. If your dog is found, the microchip must be scanned and your dogs microchip number is entered into a database to access your contact details.

How do you change ownership of a microchipped dog?

To change the owner information in the local database, the previous owner of the pet needs to complete a transfer of ownership form. The completed form will need to be submitted to Animal Services either by the former owner or the new owner.

Does a microchip mean ownership?

Microchips identify the pet but not always the owner. For example, a person may know a cars VIN number, but that does not mean he or she is the legal owner.
