Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) Certification: Age 18 minimum. U.S Citizen. Valid MI Drivers License. Minimum of an Associates degree. Complete and pass the Reading and Writing test as prescribed by MCOLES (national standardized pre-screening test)
The official name of the test is MCOLES Reading and Writing test. Like other law enforcement tests, it contains 120 multiple-choice questions: 60 measuring writing skills and 60 measuring reading comprehension. The MCOLES test has a time limit of 2 hours, which means youll have 1 minute per question on average.
The reading and writing test is designed to measure writing skills and reading comprehension required both in basic police training and on the job. The cost to take the test is $72.00. Test results are not available by calling MCOLES or the academy where the test was taken.
All new police officer candidates must attend a certified police academy in the State of Michigan. MCOLES​ requires 594 hours of training (14 weeks).
You may retake the test at any time if you wish to attempt a higher score. You must also satisfactorily complete the MCOLES Physical Fitness Test. This test requires participants to perform Vertical Jumps, Sit-ups, Push-Ups and a -Mile Shuttle Run.
