How long does it take for a companion card to arrive?
The assessment team may request further information if required. Applications may take between 4 to 6 weeks to be processed. The Companion Card will only be issued in the name of the person with the disability.
What is the difference between a carers card and a companion card?
Unlike the Companion Card, you can use the Carer Card without your child being with you for discounts on shopping and services, and on public transport. You can get a Carer Card if you receive the Carer Payment or the Carer Allowance.
What disabilities qualify for a companion card?
You can apply for the Companion Travelcard if: You are likely to need a companion on an ongoing basis in order to use public transport. For example, if you are dependent on a wheelchair, have limited mobility, impaired vision, blindness or a cognitive impairment, or if you have a guide dog or assistance dog.
How long does it take for a companion card to be approved?
Your application will progress to be data-entered and assessed against the eligibility criteria. An application takes approximately 20 working days to be processed. Incomplete or missing information on an application cannot be processed. The assessment team may request additional information if required.
