DC Comics is ending its New 52 imprint this June, the company announced via press release today. Starting June 3, the publishing line will feature 24 new comics and 25 ongoing comics. Despite the New 52 coming to an end, DC Comics confirms this is not another reboot, and it is not returning to a pre-New 52 universe.
When DC Comics decided to reboot their entire universe of Justice League heroes and villains in the launch of The New 52, fans were divided. Now that the true force behind the DC Rebirth has been revealed, it's official: even the heroes themselves now realize The New 52 was always doomed to fail.
The new 52 line was announced officially on May 31, 2011, with DC describing the reboot as \u201ca historic renumbering of the entire DC Universe line of comic books with 52 first issues.\u201d Not mentioned in that first announcement was the continuity reboot element of the line. Why 52 books?
