Terminal leave is regular, chargeable leave used immediately prior to separation or retirement from the military. Taking terminal leave lets you use accrued leave in lieu of selling the leave. Terminal leave is granted at the discretion of your command.
Employees who must be absent from work due to military duty for a time period that exceeds ten working days will be placed on an unpaid military leave of absence for the time period consistent with military orders.
What is Terminal Leave? Terminal leave, sometimes called transitional leave, is the final leave granted to a member of the armed forces just before discharge, equal to the total unused leave accumulated during active service. For all intents and purposes, you are out of the military.
You start at zero and for every month of military service, 2.5 days of leave get added to your leave account. It doesnt stop, but the most you can carry over from one fiscal year to the next fiscal year is 60 days, except in certain, very limited situations where you can carry over more.
The employee must not exceed five years of military leave with any employer (some exceptions apply). Annual training and monthly drills do not count against the cumulative total.

Special Leave Accrual (SLA) allows Service members serving in hostile fire / imminent danger (HFP/IDP) areas for a continuous period of at least 120 days to accumulate and retain up to 120 days of leave (60 days of ordinary leave, plus 60 days of SLA-protected leave).
