In order to register a rabbit, if you are so inclined, it must have a complete 3 gen pedigree, with weights and no disqualifying faults. Take it to a registrar, at a show most likely, have it examined and weighted, with ped in hand and your ARBA membership card. Forms are sent to ARBA with a fee.
A lot of breeders get wrapped up in making sure all their rabbits are pedigreed, and while record keeping is a very good habit to get into, a lot of truly spectacular rabbits get passed over because theyre missing a piece of paper. Pedigrees are not necessary for a rabbit to be shown.
There are some general rules A proper pedigree shows the rabbit in question and three generations of parentage (parents, grand parents and great grand parents). All the rabbits on the pedigree must have tattooed numbers in their left ear listed on the pedigree As well as breed, color type and adult weight.
Ideally, your rabbits should be pedigreed. Theres a lot of reasons why I believe pedigreed rabbits are a good idea: You can list their awards on the pedigree, track down genealogy, find past breeders, and see registration information if your rabbits have been registered.
The pedigree must show the name and/or ear number, weight, and variety of the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents (3 generations) of the animal being registered. (All ancestors in the 3 generations MUST be of the same breed as the animal being registered.)
