But you could also use Markup Tools in there to add annotations to a PDF. This is different than actually changing a PDF. If you want to make changes to the content of a PDF then you should go back to the original source document, like in either Pages, Word, InDesign, or whatever app the document was created in, create a new version of that document and export it as a PDF. But if you want to markup a document, add annotations, add notes, add editors notes, add some text to it like if its a form but not a real PDF form so you can put some text on there to fill in the blanks, sign

In the Preview app, you can add new text to a PDF. You cant, however, edit the existing text. To add new text to a PDF while using the Preview app: Select Tools.
How to type on a PDF in Preview on Mac. Click the Show Markup Toolbar button. Click the textbox icon in the toolbar. Type your text. Drag the box to where you want it.
Although you cant edit the text of a PDF in Preview, you can use the markup tools to provide feedback or write down something you want to remember. The editing tools in the Markup toolbar are ideal for collaboratinguse them to suggest changes to a PDF and to respond to suggestions.
View the annotation options by navigating to Tools Annotate and select the option you would like to use. You can also show the markup toolbar at the top by selecting View Show Markup Toolbar. Highlight, underline, draw and add notes to the document. Once you are done, make sure to save.
In the top toolbar, click the Text button to enable editing mode. You can then click the text block to modify, insert, or delete text.
To draw a line in preview go to the Tools menu and select Annotate. Under the Annotate option is an option for a line. This will put a single line on your page. You might have hit rectangle instead on line.
Preview doesnt have an editing feature. The app doesnt have the option to edit existing text in a PDF. However, it offers Markup and Annotations tools you can use for collaborating by adding notes and text to the document.
Use Markup to write or draw on a photo in Photos on Mac In the Photos app on your Mac, double-click a photo, then click Edit in the toolbar. Click the Extensions button , then choose Markup. Use the tools that appear in the toolbar to mark up the photo. Click Save Changes.
