When to Apply. That depends on each scholarships deadline. Some deadlines are as early as a year before college starts, so if youre in high school now, you should be researching and applying for scholarships during the summer between your junior and senior years. But if youve missed that window, dont give up!
The Governors Merit Scholarship currently awards the top 5% of each high school graduating class a $5,000 scholarship each year to attend an Ohio college or university. The Senates version of the budget would reduce it to the top 2% of each high school starting with the 2027 fiscal year.
Dont wait until your senior year to search and apply for scholarships. Junior year is an ideal time to start the search- in fact, the sooner the better. Many scholarships repeat year after year, so you can get a head start on seeing what will be available.
Must be an Ohio resident. Must be an incoming freshman. Must have a cumulative high school GPA of 3.00 or higher. Must also maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher once admitted to the program.
