Mine Safety and Health Inspector Duties: Issue citations when violations and hazards are identified. Determine how accidents and disasters are caused and prevented. Discuss inspection/investigation findings and provide technical support and assistance to mine management and personnel.
MSHA is required to inspect each underground mine four times a year and each surface mine twice a year for health and safety compliance. Certain mines with high levels of explosive or toxic gasses are inspected more often.
OSHA will not conduct general inspections of mine or mill sites except with respect to those areas set forth in this Agreement and its Appendix A.
