Rapid Access Prostate Clinic includes: Multi-disciplinary team including General Practitioner and Consultant Urologist. Comprehensive verbal and physical assessment. A diagnostic MRI investigation in a QSI accredited Diagnostic Imaging Department (where necessary) Rapid access to results.
At the appointment a Urology consultant will discuss the MRI scan and biopsy results in depth and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions. If the prostate biopsies confirm prostate cancer the consultant will also discuss any treatment you may need.
The Rapid Access Prostate Clinic (RAPC), delivered by the urology team at The Bon Secours Hospital Cork, provides review and access to diagnostic tests as required for patients. Once you are referred to the service, you will be appointed to a Consultant Urologist who will review your condition.
Clinical assessment Your blood pressure will be recorded and a blood sample may be taken. A short medical history will be taken. At this appointment your PSA level and MRI scan report and your symptoms will be discussed. Any medical conditions will be assessed and your questions will be answered.
Rapid Access Prostate Clinics were set up by the National Cancer Control Programme (NCCP) so that patients up to 70 years of age could be seen, diagnosed quickly and start their treatment as soon as possible.
