Is i485 approval the same as green card?

The Form I-485 examines the beneficiarys prior immigration history, any criminal history, and any other reason that the beneficiary might be inadmissible as a permanent resident. USCIS will take the beneficiarys fingerprints, mandate a medical examination, and conduct a background check.

What does Form I-485 mean?

If all of the requirements are met, and an immigrant visa is allocated by the Department of State (DOS), the Form I-485 is approved. Upon approval, the applicant is mailed a Form I-551, Permanent Resident Card.
