How do I donate my body to science after death in Texas?

If donor forms are not on file with the Body Donation Program at the time of death, the next of kin may make an after death donation of the body to our program. Please contact the Body Donation Program (210-567-3900) to receive instruction to do so.

How do I donate my body to Utsw?

UT Southwestern can also accept donations of individuals that are not previously signed up with our program prior to passing and after death has occurred. The Next of kin may contact the Willed Body Program at 214-648-2221 or 1-888-905-9991 or see Donate your loved one.

What are the negatives to donating your body to science?

The biggest drawback of donating your body is that your family cannot have a service with the body present. You can have a memorial service without a viewing. In some cases, the funeral home will allow for immediate family to have a closed viewing, much like an identification viewing.

What excludes you from donating your body to science?

The potential donor has an infectious or contagious disease (such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B or hepatitis C, or prion diseases). The next of kin objects to the donation of the body. The body is not acceptable for anatomical study (extremely emaciated or extremely obese).

How do I donate a body to UT Austin?

At the time of death, and after the death is pronounced, the family or medical staff should call our Donation Pager at (713) 760-2649 for the donor to be picked up and delivered to UTHealth. We can utilize the donation for up to 2 or more years.
