GVROs have been in effect in California since January 1, 2016 under the Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) law.
All Superior Courts in California have authority over a wide variety of case types: Civil Cases - Includes both limited civil cases ($35,000 or less) and unlimited civil cases (over $35,000). Criminal Cases - Both felony and misdemeanor crimes (including such offenses as driving under the influence).
Gun Violence Restraining Orders (GVRO), also known as red flag laws, allow law enforcement, family and household members, some co-workers, employers and teachers to work with a judge to temporarily remove access to firearms and ammunition from people at significant risk of self-harm or harming others.
The UCL forbids unlawful, unfair or fraudulent conduct in connection with virtually any type of business activity. With its sweeping liability standards and broad equitable remedies, the UCL is often the weapon of choice for plaintiffs lawyers and is almost uniformly invoked by prosecutors in consumer cases.
This bill would, beginning on January 1, 2026, require a person who possesses a firearm in a residence to keep the firearm securely stored when the firearm is not being carried or readily controlled by the person or another lawful authorized user.
