While you dont have to worry about paying state or local income taxes in Washington, theres no escaping federal income tax. However, there are certain steps you may be able to take to reduce the taxes coming out of your paychecks. The simplest way to change the size of your paycheck is to adjust your withholding.
Business and Occupation (BO) tax Almost all businesses in Washington are subject to the state BO tax. This includes corporations, LLCs, partnerships, and sole proprietorships. The BO tax is a gross receipts tax on the business.
Since Washington does not collect an income tax on individuals, you are not required to file a WA state income tax return. However, you may need to prepare and e-file a federal income tax return.
Income tax forms: The State of Washington does not have a personal or corporate Income Tax. Warning: to protect against the possibility of others accessing your confidential information, do not complete these forms on a public workstation.
Income tax forms Sole business owners must also submit a Schedule C (Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR), Profit or Loss from Business. Additionally, partnerships must file an information return (Form 1065, U.S. Return of Partnership Income, and Form 965-A, Individual Report of Net 965 Tax Liability).
The state of Washington does not require you to file Form W-2 as there is no state income tax. Even though the State of Washington does not require W2 Form, the IRS/SSA still requires you to file Form W2 to report wages and the taxes withheld for each of your employees for the year.
