As an employer of an apprentice or trainee, you must ensure appropriate and qualified supervision of the apprentice or trainee during their apprenticeship or traineeship.
Back to Work supports eligible employers to hire eligible unemployed job seekers with payments of up to $20,000 available. This program allows eligible Queenslanders with substantial industry experience the opportunity to complete a priority trade qualification.
The main difference is that a traineeship is offered in a broader range of occupations and is shorter - typically over one or two years. An apprenticeship covers skilled trades and takes a lot longer - usually three to four years, either full or part-time.
Anyone can start a full-time apprenticeship or traineeship in Queensland if they fulfil basic eligibility criteria for: minimum age (13 years old for most jobs) residency (living and working in Queensland) visa requirements for workers other than Australian and New Zealand citizens.
