The CSTE determines the list of diseases in collaboration with the CDC, revising it annually as needed; the list includes those infectious diseases for which data can provide a basis for state and local agencies to plan more effective programs for disease prevention and control.

Diseases reportable to the CDC include: Anthrax. Arboviral diseases (diseases caused by viruses spread by mosquitoes, sandflies, ticks, etc.) such as West Nile virus, eastern and western equine encephalitis. Babesiosis. Botulism. Brucellosis. Campylobacteriosis. Cancer. Candida auris, clinical.
Reportable diseases are diseases that must be brought to the attention of ISDA immediately, as soon as identified. Notifiable diseases are diseases that must be brought to the attention of ISDA within 48 hours of discovery.
Because reporting is currently mandated by law or regulation only at the local and state levels, the list of diseases that are considered reportable varies by state. For example, reporting of coccidioidomycosis to CDC is not done by some states where this disease is not reportable to local or state authorities.
