In order to be complete, the pedigree must include: the individual rabbits- DOB, Variety, Sex, Name, Ear Number and weight (once they reach SR age), and every one of the ancestors listed, the same. Somewhere on the pedigree it also must state the breed and breeder information.
A lot of breeders get wrapped up in making sure all their rabbits are pedigreed, and while record keeping is a very good habit to get into, a lot of truly spectacular rabbits get passed over because theyre missing a piece of paper. Pedigrees are not necessary for a rabbit to be shown.
It costs $4 each to register rabbits. Your official registration papers from the A.R.B.A. will arrive by mail in a few weeks.
Ideally, your rabbits should be pedigreed. Theres a lot of reasons why I believe pedigreed rabbits are a good idea: You can list their awards on the pedigree, track down genealogy, find past breeders, and see registration information if your rabbits have been registered.
The rabbit or cavy must be at least 6 months of age, and you must have a 3 generation pedigree for the animal being registered. The pedigree must show the name and/or ear number, weight, and variety of the parents, grandparents, and great-grandparents (3 generations) of the animal being registered.
