The NPDES program issues two types of stormwater permits general and individual depending on the facility and the pollutants that are discharged.
The CGP applies to operators of construction activities that will disturb one or more acres of land, or that will disturb less than one acre but are part of a common plan of development or sale that will ultimately disturb one acre or more.
Stormwater means precipitation runoff, surface water runoff or surface water drainage. The purpose of an Industrial Stormwater Permit is to ensure that industrial facilities properly monitor and control stormwater to minimize its impact upon the environment.
Pollution Construction runoff can contain pollutants like sediment, cement, paint, fuel, and oil, which can harm water resources. Loss of aquatic habitat Sediment from construction runoff can smother aquatic plants and spawning areas, and clog fish gills. Flooding Increased runoff can cause nearby areas to flood.
The contractor may file a paper NOI by mail, or an electronic NOI through STEERS. Regardless of method, the contractors NOI should use the site name, location description, and RN as it appears on the TxDOT NOI and the authorization certificate.
