Moves in the field is a name given to elements of figure skating that emphasize basic skating skill and edge control. In the context of a competitive program, moves in the field include spirals, spread eagles, Ina Bauers, hydroblading, and similar extended edge moves.
Effective July 1, 2023 the following test names will be changing: Moves in the field tests will be renamed skating skills tests. Free skate tests will be renamed singles tests.
There are age restrictions for these levels in Synchro and Theatre on Ice. Novice is generally 16 and under (with 4 allowed age 16-18). Intermediate is all under 18. Juvenile is all under 13.
The standard moves in the field tests are divided into eight classes to be taken in the following order: Pre-preliminary, preliminary, pre-juvenile, juvenile, intermediate, novice, junior and senior. The purpose of this test is to encourage beginning skaters to learn the fundamentals of ice skating.
