Answer: Currently, the following states require a nonresident pharmacy PIC to be licensed in their state: Alabama, Arkansas, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia.
Beginning January 1, 2026, the Illinois Board of Pharmacy will require out-of-state (non-resident) pharmacies licensed or seeking licensure in Illinois to have a pharmacist-in-charge (PIC) who is licensed in Illinois.
Non-participating jurisdictions are: Alaska. Arkansas. California. Idaho. Michigan. Puerto Rico. Vermont. Islands.
All non-resident pharmacies shipping into Massachusetts must obtain a license from the Board to dispense prescriptions into the state. Non-dispensing pharmacies will not be required to apply for licensure.
