If one holds herself/himself out to be an APRN, a RN or LPN, a license is required even though an individual is not employed as a nurse.
Your doctor, RN (nurse practitioner), dentist, or veterinarian must have the authority from their professional regulator to prescribe opioids and controlled drugs, such as tramadol products.

Kentucky nurse practitioners and nurse midwives are licensed independent providers. They autonomously provide health care services to patients and refer patients for specialty care when necessary. In Kentucky, NPs and NMs are not required to have physician supervision in order to practice.
Kentucky is classified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) as a reduced practice state, meaning that the states laws reduce the ability of NPs to engage in at least one element of their practice.
For controlled substances, NPs will be required to have demonstrated safe practice for 12 months prior to application for a controlled substance certificate. If authorized by the collaborative practice agreement, APRNs can prescribe those hydrocodone combinations reclassified from Schedule III to Schedule II.
