The Tumor Registrars Association of Maryland (TRAM) is a professional organization that supports cancer registrars and healthcare professionals throughout the state of Maryland.
Earn an Associate Degree or complete 60-Hours of College-Level Courses, including Six College Credit Hours in Human Anatomy and Human Physiology. Complete one year (1,950 hours) of Cancer Registry Experience. Pass the Oncology Data Specialist (ODS) Exam. Maintain the ODS Credential with Continuing Education Courses.
Applicants with associates or bachelors degrees are preferred in the hiring of cancer registrars. Postsecondary education should focus on data processing, medical terminology and coding, biology, physiology, and anatomy. Certification as a Certified Tumor Registrar requires an Associates Degree.
There are two major types of cancer registries: population-based registries and hospital-based registries. Cancer registrars are the people who collect and report cancer data.
