Laws That Regulate Student Course Load Senate Bill 345, the 45 Plus Hour Rule, stipulates that a student taking more than 45 hours over the minimum required for their undergraduate degree will be required to pay tuition at a rate higher than the rate charged for regular resident undergraduate tuition.
This is known as the 30hr/45hr rule or excessive hours. An average degree in TX is 120 completed hours. You may attend at your reduced tuition rate up to 30 hours above this number of attempted hours (150 hours total on most occasions).
A resident doctoral student who has a total of 100 or more semester credit hours of doctoral work at an institution of higher education is required to pay nonresident doctoral tuition rates.
