PICs are unique eight-digit codes assigned to properties with livestock and placed into a district register by Local Land Services. These codes help to trace livestock on properties and help control disease and chemical residue outbreaks.
Reading the first eight characters on the NLIS ear tag will give you the PIC number where the animal was born. This can be used to search the PIC register to find details of where the animal was originally from.
PIC stands for Participant Identification Code. This code serves as a unique identifier of an organisation in the Commissions organisation register (Participant Register).
PICs are printed on approved NLIS tags that are attached to livestock and are also recorded on livestock movement documents including national vendor declarations (NVD), transported stock statements (TSS) and PigPass NVDs.
OID and PIC number are obtained on the platform/portal of the European Commission, after entering basic information about the organization, such as the name, address, registration number, VAT/tax identification number, contact person, etc.
