NCAA Permission to Contact: Self-Release is a process that allows student-athletes to communicate with other NCAA institutions regarding their interest in transferring.
Student-athletes must register with the NCAA Eligibility Center to be eligible to play NCAA Division I or II sports in college. Athletes playing in Division III do not have to register.
The NCAA Eligibility Center (formerly known as the NCAA Clearinghouse) is an organization that helps determine the eligibility of student-athletes to participate in college-level sports in the United States.
To remain eligible in Division I, student-athletes must complete 40 percent of the coursework required for a degree by the end of their second year in college. They must complete 60 percent by the end of their third year and 80 percent by the end of their fourth year.
No more penalties for multiple transfers: Previously, athletes who transferred more than once needed to apply for a waiver or sit out a year. Now, they can move freely, if they follow compliance procedures and academic standards.
