You must pick up permits in-person at a park Backcountry Permit Office within two days of the trip start date. Not all campsites are reservable in advance. Sites designated as In-Station and are only available in-person within two days of the trip start date.
Yellowstone has 1,114 miles of trails and 293 designated backcountry campsites, each with limits on group size and stock. Campsite stays range from 1 to 3 nights, with group sizes limited to 4 to 12 people. Except for four sites, only one group is allowed per campsite.
If youre lucky enough to be spending many nights in the backcountry, an annual backcountry pass costs $25. You can arrange for permits in person at a backcountry office no more than 48 hours in advance of your trip, or you can make reservations ahead of time by fax, mail, or in person only.
Yellowstone camping fees vary depending on the campground and the type of site you choose. Most campgrounds within Yellowstone National Park charge between $15 and $47 per night for a basic tent site or RV site. Some campgrounds also offer group sites, which can cost up to $60 per night.
Make sure your itinerary conforms to rules and regulations. Wilderness permits cost $15 each trip plus $5 per person within the quota season. You will be able to pay for your permit directly on Recreation.gov.
