Residents must have a permit from both the Fire Department and from the Utah DEQ. Applicants must go to the DEQ website listed below to obtain a DEQ permit prior to burning. The Fire Department will then contact applicant for permit fee and to schedule an inspection of the burn site location.
For a burning with or without a permit, an individual is guilty of a class C misdemeanor if the individual fails to notify, subject to Subsection (10), the state forester, the state foresters designee, or the applicable safety answering point of a burning as required by this section.

The pile size must be 3 feet or less in diameter and 2 feet or less in height. The pits can only be used for recreational use and burning of waste material is prohibited. Burning yard debris is prohibited except during the permitted (burn permits) open burn season.
