The details: Start your hike at Spooner summit trailhead on route 50 east of the lake near mile 63. Hike clockwise. You have about 57 miles to hit route 50 on the south side of the lake. Your next resupply is Tahoe City another 55 miles. Finish the last 63 mile section of the trail returning to Spooner summer.
Do I need a permit to hike the Tahoe Rim Trail? You only need a permit for the Desolation Wilderness, or if you plan on using a camp stove. You can read more about the regulations from the Tahoe Rim Trail Association.
Camping is prohibited at trailheads. Camping within the Lake Tahoe Nevada State Park is restricted to three established campsites: Marlette Peak, Hobart and North Canyon Campground.
