The Alabama Child Labor Law A Class I Child Labor Certificate is required for the employment of 14 and 15 year old minors. A Class II Child Labor Certificate is required for the employment of 16 and 17 year old minors.
The Alabama Child Labor Law Employers who wish to employ person under 18 years of age must obtain the appropriate Child Labor Certificate(s) for each location where persons under 18 years of age are employed. A Class I Child Labor Certificate is required for the employment of 14 and 15 year old minors.
Youths 14 and 15 years old may work outside school hours in various non-manufacturing, non-mining, non-hazardous jobs under the following conditions: No more than 3 hours on a school day or 18 hours in a school week; 8 hours on a non-school day or 40 hours in a non-school week.
Work permits can be obtained from the local board of education or the minors school. Several items are required of the minor who wishes to get a work permit, including proof of age, a statement from a parent, and a statement from his or her prospective employer.
Submit the completed application form along with any supporting documents to the appropriate office or agency responsible for issuing work permits in Alabama. This may be the local employment office or the Alabama Department of Labor. Pay any applicable fees for the processing of the work permit.
