How to Obtain an Odometer Disclosure Statement. Every state requires some form of odometer disclosure statement. You can visit your state Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) website for specific details about where you live. Some states use a federal form for the statement, and others have their own unique templates.
Section 501.072 requires the transferor of a motor vehicle transferred in this state to provide to the transferee a disclosure of the vehicles odometer reading at the time of the transfer in compliance with 49 U.S.C.
The transferee, when applying for a title, is required to provide the transferors (sellers) title, and if that title contains a space for the ( print page 52667) transferor to disclose the vehicles mileage, that information must be included, and the statement must be signed and dated by the transferor.
4-5.1 Requirements Odometer mileage disclosure must be made with every transfer of ownership (excluding manufacturer to dealer). This includes dealer trades of new vehicles. The purchasing dealer must receive a separate odometer mileage disclosure statement unless odometer mileage disclosure statement is on an MCO.
Vehicles manufactured with a 2010 model year or older remain exempt under the 10-year exemption. Beginning January 1, 2021, and every year thereafter, states will be obligated to continue to capture odometer disclosures for model year 2011 and later vehicles.
