What is FIS membership?

FIS stands for the Federation of International Skiing. It is an international registration required for some upper level competitions held in the U.S. and abroad. FIS ages and deadline may vary by sport. Please contact USSA Member Service for details at membership@ussa.org or 435.647. 2666.

How do you become a FIS member?

To obtain a FIS registration you must hold a current U.S. Ski Snowboard Competitor membership (U16 over or U15 over) and be a U.S. citizen. Masters must hold an U.S. Ski Snowboard Masters membership to obtain a Masters FIS license.

How do you become a FIS?

You must have a full competitor membership in your sport to register for FIS. Those registering for an Alpine Masters FIS licences must hold a U.S. Ski Snowboard Alpine Masters membership.

How much is a FIS membership?

To complete FIS registration at the $85 rate, athletes must hold a current U.S. Ski Snowboard alpine competitor membership for the 2020-21 season, including any division or state dues that may apply. U.S. Ski Snowboard and FIS memberships may be purchased in one transaction using the online registration system.

How much do FIS skiers make?

On average, most pro skiers make anywhere from $30,000 to $125,000 a year before taxes, which means that most of them are doing it for the love of the sport and not the money. Especially since you usually do not get paid unless you finish first, second, or third.
