Is the Tyne Tunnel going cashless?

The month with the lowest sum generated was March 2021, when £16,147 was made. Ever since Monday, November 8 the Tyne Tunnel has run on a new cashless system. Motorists must now pay in advance of their travel, or by midnight the day after completing their trip.

How much is the Tyne Tunnel 2021?

As of 2021 the toll charge is £1.90; vans, trucks, and buses, £3.70. Motorcycles use the tunnel free and Blue Badge holders can apply for an exemption account.

Can you pay by card on the Tyne Tunnel?

Tyne Tunnels will switch to "open road tolling" from Monday November 8, 2021. The pay toll plazas will be removed, and cash payments will no-longer be accepted. The idea is to allow motorists to drive straight through the tunnels without having to stop.
